yeah i don’t mind! I’m fine with tags like kin, me, id, etc.
6000 x 9000 is 20 x 30 inches at 300dpi. 30 inches is about the biggest i can make a file in photoshop without it getting laggy and misbehaving. Working on a bigger file is easier for me and it ends up making everything look cleaner. I’ve compared it before to drawing with a marker on a post-it vs drawing with the same marker on a big piece of poster board, you have more room to work with so you can be more precise.
To scale it down i just go to image > image size… (in photoshop) and set the width to 800 pixels keeping the proportions locked.
I don’t pay much attention to brush size. I think for sketching/lineart it’s around 30-40 pixels and for coloring I just change the size of the brush to whatever will wok best.
:o ………..yes
Well with fusion designs there are no set rules. The crew has said it’s more about what looks cool. There -are- some patterns like amethyst fusions tend to have extra arms that split at the elbow, pearl and garnet fusions usually have extra eyes, jasper fusions are centaurs, etc. but these rules have already been bent or broken within the show itself. Don’t worry about accuracy too much, just have fun!
yeah! we know BD was probably with the rest of the diamonds towards the end of the war (at least whenever the corruption song happened) but if the palanquin was attacked there’s a chance bp was left behind. I feel like she wouldn’t know what to do all alone and would wait nearby until BD came back to pick her up. (although if she was on earth when the corruption song hit…well…)
I gasped when i saw that page of the book. I hope Steven will get to visit it soon and we’ll learn more about what happened.
I’ve seen a lot of theories about it being someone else who shattered her but I think Rose was definitely the person who did it. Garnet pretty much confirmed it. The only other theory about it I kinda like is that it was actually Pearl who shattered PD and Rose covered for her but I’m not totally convinced on that.
I’d like to see a flashback or at least have a more detailed explanation of what actually happened. I doubt Rose planned to shatter PD in advance. My guess is that she tried to talk to her first and shattered her out of desperation. Context is important. But I like this reveal that Rose was not pure and perfect. It gives Steven an opportunity to be better than her like Bismuth said he was. Rose shattered PD because she saw it as the only option, Steven will most likely work to change the diamond’s minds without killing anyone.
As for Lion, personally I like the theory that they’re a corrupted pearl. The pocket dimension makes a lot of sense that way. I haven’t seen any explanation for Lion being PD though and I can’t think of anything myself but maybe i’m missing something.
My coloring process is really basic but if people are interested i could try and put together some kind of step by step thing?
There’s no commission info. I have two jobs and for the time being I’d rather spend my free time drawing for myself and not stress myself out with extra work.
hmm i’m not sure i’m the best person to ask about this. Usually if I’m not feeling inspired to draw it’s because of depression/lack of motivation instead of a lack of ideas (which is what I’m assuming you’re asking about.) At the moment I have a a big list of stuff to draw written out in teeny tiny handwriting on a series of post-it notes. If I don’t have any new ideas it’s fine because there’s still old ideas I can draw.
It’s normal to have lulls in inspiration. Usually I find that it’s best not to worry about it, it’ll come back. I think sometimes there’s this fear that if you aren’t constantly inspired then you’re not a real artist or you’ve lost your creativity and that’s not true. It’s 100% normal. Worrying about it can make you feel even more stuck so it really is a good idea to go do something else for a while (“going outside”) but don’t do it with the intention of finding new ideas. It’s one of those things where once you stop looking for it you’ll find it haha.
I did! I did! Happy Lappy ;u;
I’m really looking forward to this Steven bomb, it looks like a lot of cute episodes are on the way!
- Instead of thinking of where to put shadows think about where the light is hitting. This sounds less helpful typed out than i planned but it’s an easier way to think of it imo.
- Keep your shadows big and simple. You can add some detail to them but overall the shadows should make sense as a whole. I drew a quick little guy to show you what i mean:

- zoom way out of your drawing every now and then to see if your drawing makes sense.
- Remember that even though cartoons are flat and 2D they’re still based on real life 3D things.
As for how I learned I don’t really have an answer other than years and years of practice.;; Going off the last point, draw from life, do figure drawings, practice learning to see the shadows on real life people/objects. A fun exercise is to draw something with a pen or pencil and then take a big marker or watercolor brush and block in the shadows. Just keep at it!
I do both! It depends on the picture, if i’m unsure of what colors i want to use or i’m doing something outside of my comfort zone it helps a lot to pick out a palette in advance, but a lot of times i just go for it.
As far as tips:
This post is pretty long and that’s all i can think of right now. Obviously this isn’t everything there is to know about color and it applies mostly to digital art. But i hope it helped a little.
I don’t really feel like my lineart is that clean? I work on really big canvases tho, like 8000px across and when you scale it down it makes everything look much cleaner haha
I also try to do most of my lines in one big motion instead of lots of making lots of shorter marks. But actually, what helped me figure out how to do lineart was to stop worrying about how you’re supposed to do lineart and do what’s comfortable. You’re allowed to use lots of short sketchy marks and redraw parts and erase parts if that’s what feels natural to you.
This is always a really tough question to answer because i’m never sure what sort of art advice you’re looking for. There’s a lot of aspects to art and i don’t even know if you want advice about technical stuff or motivational stuff… But I think the best thing is just to draw what you wanna draw and what’s fun and enjoyable to you. The only way to get better is to practice and it’s easier to practice when you’re drawing something you enjoy instead of making yourself draw 600 boxes in perspective or something (unless that’s fun for you.) Draw a ton of fanart or your OCs making out or whatever makes you happy. And try not to worry about not already having the skills to draw the thing you want. Draw the thing. It might be wonky on the first attempt but you have to start somewhere before you can get better. idk i hope this was at least a little helpful.
if anyone ever draws anything for me please send me a link. Nothing ever shows up in my tag or in the search. ;;
