I have an account on Society6 but i haven’t updated it in almost a year. If anyone wants something specific as a print just tell me what it is and if i still have a large enough file saved to my laptop i’ll post it for you.
oh my god you are an amazing artist!!! i've been working on my art for a while now and i feel confidant on paper, but i'm having a hard time adjusting to digital. are there any techniques or websites you'd recommend? (btw i draw on an ipad)
You’re trying to adjust to drawing on an ipad. Oh precious child. I’m impressed by your determination tbh. From what i understand ipads have absolutely 0 pressure sensitivity (ie drawing lighter gives you lighter, smaller brushstrokes, drawing harder gives you darker, larger brushstrokes) so that’s probably a huge part of why it’s been tough to adjust. I’ve never tried using an ipad to draw but I’ve tried drawing on my phone before and gave up in two days.
Assuming you have access to a computer or laptop, it’s worth the investment to buy a tablet that’s intended to be used for drawing. You don’t have to drop hundreds of dollars, Monoprice actually makes some decent tablets for around $40-$60.
If you need to stick with the ipad though, I’d recommend playing around with the opacity of your brushes in whatever app you’re using. When I’m sketching it feels a lot more natural to me to have my brushes set at 30-45% opacity instead of 100%. That way you can layer your lines more like a pencil. I only ever really use 100% for flat colors. Unfortunately I don’t have any specific websites to point you towards. A lot of my digital knowledge just came from playing around in PS on my own and picking up tips here and there from other artists.
Other than that, it’s just a matter of drawing a lot. I switched to digital art about 3 years ago and it’s only been within the last year that I’ve really felt comfortable with it. Just keep going, you’re doing good!
aaaaa I missed it by a little bit but there’s now over 5k people following this blog! I honestly didn’t think when I started this blog that this would be something that ever happened and I feel so special now. Thank you! You’re all great!
Also I have a ton of asks but I’m gonna watch the new su ep first before i get to them!
OH also while we’re talking about jasper did anyone notice the holo jasper (maybe?) with the giant axe in today’s ep? I have so many questions. I just really want to know more of all these character’s backstories jnlfsja
this post has some pretty interesting theories, one of them about the gem that looks like jasper. i also find it interesting that garnet picked up an axe like that
and in the background you see another axe, along with swords (which pearl experts in), that may be of some relevance. maybe one side fought with axes and the other fought with swords.
That is a really interesting post. I’m glad someone else picked up on the “you weren’t built for fighting line” And yeah at first I was wondering if the axe garnet picked up was the same one in pearl’s flashback (it’s not) but it’s even more interesting that it’s not. idk if it was just for dramatic effect but the mystery gem and Rose in the flashback looked GIANT. WHat happened during this battle!?!

Another theory on jasper; there are several types of jasper stone so maybe tiger jasper and another type of jasper fused together?
That’s a good point! (there is also ocean jasper which i think was missed opportunity for an awesome pun tbh) But yeah, I’ve actually been wondering for a while now how the show is gonna handle different variations of the same stone? There are different types of garnets and pearls and sapphires too (I would love to see a padparadscha character that is my dream chara) and about a bajillion different types of quartz and I wonder if the show will address that or if they’ll just avoid it? There’s already been hints of different colors of diamonds so maybe?
I want to reblog my art back from everyone who has ever deleted my captions and then advertised their blogs on it with stuff like •♫☼♪• and change all their links so it just goes straight to a rickroll instead of their awful blogs.
i love that pic of amethyst you did. if you have any time or inspiration could you do alternate hairstyle for any of the other crystal gems (pearl, rose, garnet)? thank you thank you!
Thank you! Actually, I originally planned to just do the Lapis outfits…but then I wanted to draw Ames…and now I have like, two outfits planned for Pearl and one for Peridot and basically I think I’ve doomed myself to draw all of them now.
If Jasper was a fusion we would see the third gem in the Malachite fusion light blob thing. In Sugilite's fusion blob you see the Amethyst, Ruby, and Sapphire gems. In Opal you see both the Pearl and the Amethyst, and when Alexandrite is breaking apart you see all 4. Jasper has no second gem, and Rose was 8 feet tall and not a fusion, so her height can't really be a defining factor of fusionhood.
eh, I guess you don’t do you? But you barely see Lapis either. -shrugs- As far as Rose goes, she’s implied to be really high ranking and she also doesn’t have the fusion eye thing going on like Jasper does. I know her height might have nothing to do with it but it’s still really interesting to me that the only other fusions we’ve seen as tall as Malachite are fusions of 3 or more gems. (on a side note I feel like we know almost nothing about Rose yet. I want to learn more about her.)
So maybe the Jasper is a fusion theory isn’t true but it’s still fun. I’m going to keep my headcanon unless flat out proven/disproven by the creators.
You know, I'm a bit ashamed that I didn't pick up that Malachite has six arms. Shit. Huh. Also, did you already have that other picture in your archives? Or did you draw that in the MAYBE hour since I asked? Either way, damn impressive.
Yep! Malachite is so weird I love her design. And…yeah idk how long it was after you sent that ask but yeah, i drew it after I got home and saw it in my inbox haha. Thanks.
I've been drawing for over 10 years and I didn't seem to see any progression out of it, my art doesn't looks like it's drawn by someone who spent all those time drawing, should I consider stop drawing and do something else?
What is the art of someone who’s spent 10+ years drawing supposed to look like anyway? There isn’t a set timeline for art progress, everyone is on their own schedules. It’s less about chronological time and more about quality time. How much time is spent actually drawing? studying? pushing yourself out of your comfort zone? There are people who draw every day for 8 hours a day and there are people who draw maybe once a month, you can’t expect them to make the same progress in the same time period. And neither is a bad thing tbh, everyone is different. The point I’m trying to make here is that it’s just not fair to compare yourself to some impossible to define standard of what your art is “supposed” to look like. Try looking back at some of your older drawings, I’m sure you’ve grown a lot more than you think.
And if you haven’t? So what?! Who said you have to be constantly improving at something in order to do it? There’s no rule out there that says you have to be at a certain skill level by a certain point in time in order to draw. If you’re thinking that you want to stop drawing then I think it’s good to ask yourself what your reasons for drawing were in the first place. Do you draw because it’s fun and you enjoy it? Then keep drawing. You are not required to be good at it.
hello! i love drawing but im not good at it so i have been wondering -if i keep drawing, will i get better eventually no matter how bad i am right now? what's your opinion as an artist? im sorry this is a weird question, i love your art and have a nice day! :)
That’s not a weird question anon! I think a lot of people wonder if art is just something that’s hopeless for them and if they just don’t have the talent.
But art is a skill, not a magical gift bestowed only upon “true artists” by unicorns. Anyone can learn to draw so yes, if you keep drawing you will improve. And it has nothing to with how bad your art is to start with because everyone starts by making bad art. I wanted to write out a long answer for you but I don’t even know what else to say because the answer is just yes. If you practice regularly and try to do your best you will improve.
tbh though anon, don’t even worry about whether or not you’ll be good later. Just have fun drawing and learning now. Do the best you can and draw the things that you want to draw and that make you happy. I’ve learned that sometimes that’s the best thing you can do.
